Arrest Warrant Issued Against Aisha Jumwa, More Details Revealed

A Mombasa court has issued an arrest warrant for the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Malindi, Aisha Jumwa.

The Mombasa Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku ordered the orders to be carried out by police personnel after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) requested the instructions in an effort to have Jumwa arrested for court contempt in a corruption case pending before the court.

Muuku decided, "A warrant for the arrest of the suspect is now issued. The court observes that on two occasions the suspect failed to appear in court to facilitate the trial hearing."

The Chief Magistrate refused to revoke the arrest order for Jumwa when she (via her attorney) submitted a medical report indicating that she was ill and unable to appear in court.

The Magistrate stated, "I deny the defense attorney's request to vacate the orders because the prosecution has highlighted in its motion that Jumwa has been spotted on national television."

Jumwa is a suspect in a Ksh19 million fraud case in which she is accused of participating in illegal activities with the Malindi National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF)
