As the area strives to find strategies to remain politically relevant after the 2022 General Election, Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has been overwhelmingly voted as an interim spokesman for Mt Kenya.
Karua, who has indicated interest in succeeding Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru, was elected during a consultative gathering in Naivasha, Nakuru County, on Monday, September 20.
The Iron Lady, a politician who can make judgments that others fear, defeated other seasoned politicians such as Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, former Kiambu Governors Ferdinand Waititu and William Kabogo to become the GEMA community's representative.
There is no doubt that the vote-rich Mt Kenya region will not field a viable presidential contender for the 2022 presidential election, but it is trying to ensure that the region stays a significant beneficiary of the government created after the polls due to its size.
While it is known that the area could have chosen Karua as its spokesperson to deliver the region's requests for the 2022 presidential candidates, including a deputy president position and 40 percent state appointments, Karua stated that the region is pressing for long-term answers.
