The general election of August 9, 2022 has rewritten the history of women leadership in Political platform in Kenya. women and girls are slowly but steadily taking leadership in areas that were viewed as male dominated. Age is no longer a matter of concern in politics now as long as one has attained the majority age.
The female gender has the right to participate in civil society, cast ballots in elections, be chosen for public office, sit on corporate tables, and have their ideas and opinions heard in any decision that will eventually effect them, their families, and their societies. To achieve global gender equality and democratic governance, it is crucial to invest in women rights to political engagement.
The society is also participating fully in this great endeavor by showing confidence and trust in the leadership of women. As we have witnessed in the ongoing general election, the number of women taking leading roles as county bosses is going up.
In the same spirit, we have seen youthful women being elected as Women Representatives just like the case of Linet Chepkorir who scooped the seat as the elect Bomet County Women Representative. This is so encouraging especially to the young generation which makes them feel inspired and get out and compete with fellow men.
Another thing that should be praised is seeing three of the four presidential aspirants choosing women as their running mates. This is the right way to go as a nation. Some of the new confirmed women governor elect in the August 9, 2022 election include:-
1.Gladys Wanga in homabay county
2.Fatuma Achani in Kwale County.
3.Kawira Mwangaza in Meru County.
4.Cecil Mbarire in Embu County.
5.Wavinya Ndeti in Machakos County
6.Susan Kihika in Nakuru County.
What this shows is that the female gender is also in a position to provide the same leadership as men or even better if the necessary support is provided to them. The involvement of more women in the political leadership is a good sign that as a country we are in the right track towards the realization of two third gender rule.
Let us support and empower ur women and girls and accept then in our offices as our leaders.
