What Awendo Resident Told DP Ruto About The Area's Support in Dholuo After His Motorcade Was Blocked

Deputy president William Ruto has on Saturday received a warm welcome as he arrived in Migori County, a region largely perceived to be the "bedroom" of ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The second in command was accompanied by Migori County governor Zachary Okoth Obado as he met UDA Party delegates in Migori before heading to Awendo constituency where he is set to attend a church service at Awendo SDA Church.

On his way to Awendo SDA Church, the second in command was blocked by overwhelmed crowd (presumably his supporters) forcing him to make a stoppage to address the crowd.

Shouts of "Ruto! Ruto!" could be head after the DP made an appearance from the sunroof of his vehicle. From the background, several voices could be heard welcoming him in Luo and swahili language of "Karibu Awendo - Welcome to Awendo".

The second in command sent the crowd into a wild celebration after he greeted the crowd in pure Luo dialect.

"How are you? How is your lives? Are you happy?", Ruto asked in Dholuo language amidst jubilation from the overwhelmed crowd.

As he switched into swahili, a man's voice could be heard from the crowd telling Ruto that he has the support of Awendo people

"Awendo is all yours," a voice told Ruto in Dholuo (Between 2:30 - 2:47 minutes of the video).

The second in command then asked the crowd to let him attend the church service as planned so that he may address them later. He promised to listen to them after the church.

"Leo mimi ni wa hapa Awendo (Today am here in Awendo). As we look for for the votes, we must also look for the means to get to heaven. So let be go to the church first then you are going to listen to me as I also listen to you," Ruto said before handing over the microphone to governor Okoth Obado.
