With less than four months to go until the next general election on August 9, the country's two main presidential candidates are racing against time to choose their candidates.
Among those who left the country guessing their choice were Vice President William Ruto and his competitor and ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
While all scores point to a likely choice of Mount Kenya for both, the remaining headache is, who will be chosen from among those who have proven themselves worthy of the region. ?
Among those rumored to be the most likely options for DP Ruto from the region are MP Mathira Rigathi Gachagua, Alice Wahome (Kandara) Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu) Kindiki Kithure (Tharaka Nithi) Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga) and Owner Council President Justin Muturi.
However, while speaking recently during his UDA campaigns in the Mount Kenya East region, Ruto made it clear who his mate could be. Addressing massive UDA supporters in Chuka County, Tharaka Nithi, Ruto named District Senator Kithure Kindiki as his preferred candidate.
In a more suggestive tone, Ruto asked the people of Tharaka Nithi to release Kindiki for him and allow him to work together on national politics before August. He described him as a brave man. emotional and fearless, worthy of the cloak.
“Do you think this Kithure Kindiki is good enough to work with me in organizing and strategizing for the next government? Wasn't he good enough to work with me in the national government? Anatosha ama hatoshi? Listen to me carefully, I ask you, the people of Tharaka Nithi, to allow this hero here to work with me before the August election,” Ruto said as the townspeople clapped in unison. Ruto then convinced Senator Kindiki to give up his interest in the Senate and focus on national politics with him. Ruto gave the torch to Mwenda Gataya and former Governor Tharaka Nithi Samuel Ragwa to defeat him for the Senate via UDA ticket.
This stands out for Kindiki's primary role in the UDA party nominations. He is one of the key figures responsible for ensuring the process of peace across the country and keeping the country alive with timely updates from the UDA party.
