Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o presented a report for the readiness of the county to host the 9th Africities Summit at the East African Regional Caucus for the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa) on Monday Morning.

The governor also requested the president to allow the Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa to take charge of the Devolution docket until after the summit to ensure a successful occasion.

“For purposes of a successful Africities Summit, I would have to appeal to the President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, to loan to the Ministry of Devolution Hon Eugene Wamalwa until 23rd May 2022, so that he can successfully midwife the Africities Summit,” requested the governor.

Prof. Nyong’o also represented the council of governors at a meeting asking other local and regional governments to give cordial reception to the guests in May urging the region to register more delegates for the conference than other regions.

“Let us all arise as a family to lay out the red carpet to receive our guests in May,” urged the governor.

The county boss further assured leaders in the regional caucus that Kisumu had adequately prepared and that they will have an enjoyable stay during the 6-day summit.

“It, therefore, gives me pleasure to confirm to you that Kisumu and indeed Kenya will make you proud with the sound preparations put in place for the summit,” he stated.

Prof. Nyong’o added that Kisumu hosting the summit will provide various opportunities for the local residents and the region at large therefore bringing in more socio-economic goodies.

He further expressed his appreciation to UCLG-Africa for having confidence in his leadership and making Kisumu the first Intermediary city to host the international summit.

This is part of the preparations for the international conference scheduled for between 17th and 22nd of May this year.
