The steering committee rejects allegations of biased political media coverage, yet the presidential debate for this year will still take place the following month.
Deputy President and Kenya Kwanza presidential contender William Ruto is one of the contestants that have shown interest in attending the debate, according to the secretariat for the Presidential Debate 2022.
Ruto recently made a threat to withdraw from the discussion due to unfair media attention. Stephen Gitagama, the chairperson of the secretariat, refuted accusations of prejudice while addressing during the signing of a collaboration with Usawa Agenda.

"The discussion won't center on a particular media outlet. It is a collaboration of the Media Owners Association, the Kenya Editors Guild, and the Kenyan Media Council. The discussion cannot choose what airs on a specific organization, and they are merely providing a suggestion" Gitagama said.
