The Deputy Governor for Wajir county Hon Ahmed Ali Muktar has been sworn in as the new governor to take over from his predecessor Hon Mohammed Abdi after the Senate of the Republic of Kenya upheld his impeachment FOR GROSS VIOLATION OF THE CONSTITUTION.
Governor Mohamed Abdi was impeached by the county assembly of Wajir early last week and the case forwarded to the Senate for consideration. The senate then constituted an 11 member committee to probe the matter.
The 11 member committee found the governor culpable of the alleged accounts and recommended for his ouster. He now becomes the third governor in the republic of Kenya to be completely removed from office by way of impeachment after Governor Fednant Waititu of Kiambu and Mike Sonko of the Nairobi city county.
Kenyans have questioned how first the exercise has been conducted with others questioning why there is no chance for the impeached governor to appeal like it was the case of Embu governor Hon Wambora.
