Ngina Kenyatta the first lady of Kenya is known to be the fourth wife to the first president of Kenya Mzee Jomo Kenyatta. She was born in 1833 and is popularly known as Mama Ngina, being the first lady. She's mother to the current president Uhuru Kenyatta.
She got engaged to Kenyatta in 1951 few years before Kenya's independence. She gained the tittle " mother of the nation" when her husband became the first president to independent Kenya in 1963. She accompanied him in various national functions until his death in 1978. Later in 1995 Ngina became a patron of Kenyan Guiding. She also converted to Roman catholic church and attended mass every Sunday with her children.
At the moment Ngina owns large plantations, ranches, local and international businesses and hotels. Economic analysis have identified her as one of the wealthiest people in the country. These projects are managed by her children and grandchildren. An institution called Mama Ngina University has been established in the honor of her as the first lady and mother of Kenya.
