Ex-Powerful PC's Future Left In The Hands Of Ruto After Being Snubbed For Top Govt Job

As the late President Daniel Arap Moi battled to stamp his authority in the restive Central Kenya region, David Musila was posted to the region to deal with dissenting voices.

As Provincial Commissioner, Musila was Moi's eye in the region which opposed the Nyayo regime. That's how the long serving adminstrator ended up becoming a key member of the Moi kitchen cabinet.

After retiring from the provincial adminstration, Musila made a huge plunge into the murky world of politics. He won the Mwingi South MP seat during the 1997 general election on a ruling KANU party ticket.

In 2002, he jumped ship and joined the Narc bandwagon which swept KANU from power after 40 years.

Following the death of Kisumu West MP Job Omino in 2004, Musila was elected as National Assembly Deputy Speaker. He held the position until 2007.

Musila was re-elected for a third straight term as MP in 2007 on Kalonzo Musyoka's ODM- Kenya party ticket. In the Grand Coalition Government between President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga, he was appointed as Defence Assistant Minister.

During the 2013 general election, he was elected as first Kitui Senator. In 2017, he fell out with Kalonzo and opted to resign as Wiper Party chairman. He vied for Kitui Governor seat on a Jubilee Party ticket but lost to Charity Ngilu.

In 2022, he once again tried his luck in the race for Kitui Governor but was defeated by Dr Julius Malombe despite enjoying the backing of Ngilu.

Recently, he was among those who applied for the Chief Adminstrative Secretary position in the President William Ruto adminstration. However, he never made it to the final shortlist.

At 80 years now, is this the end of the road for this battle hardened soldier? This smart political survivor who spent 20 years in Parliament?

Having been snubbed for a top Government position, for now, Musila's fate lies in the hands of Ruto.
