Kisii is one of the counties in the Nyanza Region headed by Governor James Elvis Ongwae. Ongwae was elected under the umbrella of the Orange and Democratic Movement party. He is serving his second and last term and he has been prohibited by the law from attempting the third stab in the same seat.
The Candidates aspiring to succeed the governor are coming out, and one person who is yet to declare his interest in the seat is Dr Fred Matiang'i. Though his decision to join the succession race might be a shocker to his opponent. Dr Fred Matiang'I is known as a Super Minister due to his good work records in the government ministries. He is currently serving as the Cabinet Secretary in the docket of Security. He is the only cabinet Secretary who has hold two ministerial positions at a time when he was the CS Education and also the CS Security.
The other candidate who is likely to join the race is Hon Paul Simba Arati. Arati is the current Mp for Dagoreti North, one of the sub-counties in Nairobi. His entry into the gubernatorial race must also not be taken for granted due to his influence among the youths. Simba is a strong supporter of ODM which is the majority party in the Kisii region.
The other likely aspirant in the race is Hon Christopher Obure. Obure is a seasonal politician in Kisii county who served as the Mp of Bobasi Constituency. The race is likely to attract attention among different supporters in the country.
Will the Super Cabinet Secretary carry the day if he decides to go for the county top job?
