The race to succeed the incumbent governor Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya who's serving his second term and the final term in office is not yet over. The race has attracted a number of candidates but it has been narrowed to a two horse race that's between the incumbent senator Hon. Cleophas Malala who is eying the seat with the ANC ticket party associated with Dr. William Ruto now the president elect with Mr. Fernandes Barasa of Orange party associated with Hon. Raila Odinga the Azimio coalition presidential candidate.
In Mombasa and Kakamega the elections of the governorship post was postponed due to errors in the printing of ballots papers just as it was explained by the chair of IEBC Mr. Wafula Chebukati.
Both senator Malala and Mr. Barasa are hoping to clinch the seat as the second governor after the incumbent governor Hon Oparanya, senator Malala is facing an uphill task to clinch the seat since the incumbent governor is supporting Mr. Barasa on the other hand Mr. Barasa have experienced a huge storm with the declaration of Dr William Ruto as the president elect where voters in the county will prefer senator Malala to Mr. Barasa since ANC is an affiliate party in Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
Thus making it possible for Odinga's ally Mr. Barasa to lose the Kakamega gubernatorial seat.
