Governor Kiraitu Welcomes Raila To Meru

The Governor of Meru County Kiraitu Murungi accompanied by Deputy Governor Titus Ntuchiu and other leaders today welcomed ODM Leader and frontrunner presidential aspirant in next year’s polls, Rt. Hon. Raila to the County on his tour to meet the people and present his policies and what he will deliver for the County should he ascend to power to succeed President Kenyatta.

Governor Kiraitu received Hon. Odinga at Maua Stadium, after which the two leaders and their entourage addressed jubilant Wananchi at Maua town, Maili Tatu, Laare, Kangeta, Muthara, Nchiru and ended their busy day at Meru Makutano. 

They also visited Meru University of Science and Technology where they addressed the students fraternity at the institution.

In his speech, Governor Kiraitu called on Meru people to carefully consider next year’s polls so as to vote for the candidate who shows willingness and desire to work for the best interests of the County such as addressing the problematic Miraa market, infrastructure and other developments that seem to have stalled in the County.

Governor Kiraitu also hinted out that going into next year’s general elections, Meru County will use Devolution Empowerment Party to negotiate with potential presidential candidates on securing the best interests of Meru people.

On his part, Hon. Odinga pledged to work with Governor Kiraitu to reopen Miraa market and also open new markets elsewhere. Odinga also promised to ensure creation of jobs for the youth, improve SMEs as well as other businesses to ensure progress and development of Meru County.

Other leaders on the campaign trail were Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho who pledged to zero rate Miraa in Mombasa, as well as Laikipia Governor Nderitu Murithi, Kisii Governor James Ongwae, Acting Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu, deputy governors and a host of MPs and MCAs.
