During a visit by Martha Karua and Mama Ida Odinga, anti-riot police opened fire with tear gas canisters at rowdy kids, igniting running fights.
The tumultuous episode was brought on by a fight for dominance between Kisii Governor James and MP Simba Arati. A person had a brain injury as a result of the subsequent fights.
Adolescents engaged in a brawl with police officers, resulting in injuries, outside the entrance of Gusii Stadium, the site of the demonstration where Karua and Ida were due to meet women.
The stadium gate was partially destroyed by Arati's supporters as they attempted to force their way inside the stadium before being stopped by security.
Later, hundreds of young people would assault the stadium, overwhelming the officers guarding the gate.
