Former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga has finally addressed the nation on Tuesday afternoon after hours of being waited to address the nation on the conduct of the general elections by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
In his address, Raila Odinga noted that the constitution and outlaws are clear on how the IEBC should conduct it's business saying that the chairperson does not have the authority to control the commission unilaterally.
Raila Odinga, "I and the Nation at large were shocked that Chebukati denied all the commissioners access to that decision, Chebukati called a meeting and revealed to them the different results he was going to announce."
"Figures announced by Mr Wafula Chebukati are null and void..."Raila Odinga declared before noting that they are headed to the Supreme Court.
His address comes hours after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officially published the name of Deputy President William Ruto in the official government gazette notice, as President-Elect.
In the August 16, 2022 edition of the gazette notice, the chairman of the commission, Wafula Chebukati, stipulated that Dr. Ruto was legally elected in accordance with the requirements of the current Constitution.
Mr Chebukati explained that Dr Ruto and the deputy president-elect Rigathi Gachagua, will now have the authority to run the activities of the government of this country, after being sworn in.
"William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua have been duly elected as President and Deputy President, respectively, of the Republic of Kenya. This is after fulfilling the requirements contained in section 138 (4) of the Constitution during the general election held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022," Chebukati said.
