On September 13, 2022, William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua were inaugurated as president and deputy president, respectively, at Kasarani Stadium. Some weeks later, the head of state unveiled his cabinet secretaries, picking up where Uhuru Kenyatta's cabinet secretaries left off.

The president names Zachariah Njeru as the new CS for lands, succeeding Faridah Karoney in the 22-member cabinet. Zachariah Njeru was among the cabinet secretaries in Nyandarua county today, and he was given the opportunity to speak.
Zachariah Njeru has stated that this government works from the bottom up; when he graduated from Nyandarua high school, the girlfriend he had planned to marry dumped him because he was at the bottom and she was at the top.
Zachariah Njeru had the audience in stitches when he told them that when Ruto appointed him as CS for lands, his ex-girlfriend called him in the morning. According to the CS, he told her he had moved on, but they are no longer enemies because they can greet each other.
