The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC has written a letter to the Principal Secretary in charge of the Ministry of Interior Karanja Kibicho.
In their letter, IEBC has withdrawn from the Election Preparedness panel citing need to remain independent as the constitution of Kenya 2010 would demand of the electoral commission.
"After consultations and and in-depth critical appraisal of the TORs... the IEBC would wish to respectfully withdraw from further engagement in the activities of the said NMSCF and TWC," the chairperson of the IEBC Wafula Chebukati said.
According to Wafula Chebukati, he feels that the panel would manage to control how the commission goes about with its mandate which would later bring about conflict of mandate with the other agencies.
This comes days after deputy president William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance movement Party wrote to him asking for the need to have independence within the electoral agency ahead of the 2022 general elections.
