In Kisii, the Gubernatorial sit has attracted many Aspirants because the current governor, Hon James Omariba Ongwae his going for retirement after finishing his two terms tenure.

Among the ten Aspirants, two are women who have shown interest. In full list they include Deputy Governor Joash Maangi , Senator Sam Ongeri, Simba Arati Dagoretti North member of Parliament , Ezekiel Machogu Nyaribari Masaba member of Parliament and Women Representative Janet Ong'era .Others include

Transport chief administration secretary Chris Obure, Former South Mugirango Member of Parliament Manson Onyongo Nyamweya , Omingo Magara former member of Parliament south Mugirango, Rachael Otundo and the American based businessman Hon Charles Chwenya Matoke.
Ongeri being 83years old, Maangi has told him to drop his bid but he said he wants to complete the project he intiated with Ongwae.
"I have no preferred candidate , but i am weighing those interested in the seat.Our party ODM is going to conduct free , fair and transparent nominations, " Ongwae said.Those seeking the ODM ticket are Maangi, Arati, Ongeri and Ong'era.
Ongwae said he has advised Maangi to consult his Bomachoge clansmen to give him political direction and decide whether to stick with ODM or move to UDA .
Some of the aspirants have already chosen their running mate. For example Hon Simba Arati has chosen former Nyaribari chache Member of Parliament, Robert Monda as his running mate.
