Tanzanians have taken to social media to express their shock after the sudden passing on of a top journalist.

Reporter at One Stereo TV and Radio Vedasto Msungu has been confirmed dead. The celebrated journalist is said to have succumbed to COVID-19 related complication on Wednesday afternoon.

His death comes a few hours after the passing on of top politician from Zanzibar, Dr Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad, the first Vice President of Zanzibar was confirmed dead by President John Pombe Magufuli.

Magufuli used social media where he announced his death and later declared a three-day-mourning in Tanzania in his respect.

Dr Maalim Seif Sharif is the latest leader in Tanzania to succumb to COVID-19.

The journalist and the former VP deaths have shocked Tanzanians, with some of them plunging into fear.

In the recent past, several deaths have been reported in Tanzania, most of the resulting from breathing problems.

Some areas like Kilimanjaro has been recording endless burials, forcing the region commissioner to break the silence over the same, especially after the region had been branded a COVID-19 hotspot.
