After the launch of Devolution Empowerment party, Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi has revealed that they will not field a presidential candidate in the forthcoming general elections but will consider that in 2027.
The Jubilee governor stated that the party will nominate candidates for the position of Members of county assembly, members of parliament, Senators, and governors.
On the presidential election, the first term governor stated that the party will settle on someone who has got the interest of the party.
"The party will through its constitutional organs examine personalities, policies, and promises of the presidential candidates in the market, and democratically decide which Candidate to support, to promote our interests and those of United, free, democratic, and prosperous Kenya" the governor posted on his Facebook account shortly after the launch of the party.
Murungi further revealed that he will use the party to seek for re-election. He has been leaning towards former prime minister Raila Odinga a move that caused an uproar among Ruto allies.
