DP Ruto, who was speaking during Kenya Kwanza movement function in Kilifi on Friday noted that individuals who were sponsoring former prime minister Raila Odinga's presidential bid ahead of August this year's general election were to blame for the challenges facing squatters, especially in the Coastal region.
In a thinly-veilled jibe at Uhuru and his cronies, Ruto claimed that the group could not allow Raila to address land issues in the Coast because it was the root-cause of the problems.
According to DP, the powerful individuals, who conceptualized Azimio La Umoja movement and sponsored the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader to run for presidential seat in the upcoming polls will not allow him (Raila) to provide real and amicable solutions to the land challenges.
The country's second in command called on Coastal residents to elect him as the next president because his Kenya Kwanza government had a permanent solution to the land question. He dismissed Azimio La Umoja's plan on the issue, claiming that they do not have any tangible solution.
DP Ruto averred that if his coalition forms government in August this year, he will issue more title deeds to Coastal residents. Also, he claimed that Kenya Kwanza administration will buy idle land and redistribute to squatters in the region. He claimed that his government will allocate the budget for resettlement of landless Kenyans annually.
This comes after Kilifi governor Amason Jeffer Kingi's Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) party signed a pact to join Kenya Kwanza movement in readiness for the forthcoming polls. This follows after DP Ruto agreed to address land problems in the Coast region, as well as providing solutions to socioeconomic challenges facing the residents, as demanded by Kingi's PAA.
