President Ruto and his Cabinet forego one-month salary in solidarity with Drought stricken Kenyans

Cabinet members including The President Ruto,His deputy Gachagua, Attorney General Muturi and the other Cabinet secretaries have resolved to forego one month salary as their individual and collective contribution which will be channelled to hunger relief Kitty.

This follows the ongoing state interventions to support Kenyans affected by drought. The resolution was reached during Tuesday's third Cabinet meeting chaired the Head of State. The Cabinet in addition assessed the food supply situation in the country, as part of the long term measures to address the cyclic drought situation and the cost of living.

The cabinet noted that the cost of the nation's staple food; maize will remain unacceptably high. The meeting also resolved that the farmers' produce will be accorded priority access to the market.

The deficit arising from the lower than expected domestic yields will be bridged through the importation of 10 million bags of maize that is; In recognition of the annual consumption trends of about 45 million bags of maize, and mindful of the solemn duty of the State to secure the affordability of the basic food items.

We are also informed that the importation of the private sector will commence in February 2023 and shall be incentivized by way of a customs duty waiver. The farmers also will have access to subsidised fertilizers as part of the long-term food security plan.
