Independent electoral and boundaries commission (IEBC) vice chairperson Juliana Cherera has revealed that she will not honour the summons from the national assembly's justice and legal affairs committee (JLAC).
Using her attorney, Cherera announced that she will not be attending the sessions because the Justice and legal affairs committee had not given her enough time to prepare for her defense adequately.
The other commissioner who challenged the 9 August presidential results, Irene Masit, declined to defend herself. Masit would not have a counsel or present in person before the committee, her attorney told them.
"A number of commissioners on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) have not shown up to hear petitions seeking their dismissal. Court proceedings have been postponed at the request of Juliana Cherera. A representative for Irene Masit has stated that her client will not be presenting an oral defense "Citizen TV reported.
Members of parliament are now hearing four petitions demanding for the removal of the four opposing IEBC commissioners from office.
