The Secretary General of the Nurses' Union has issued new threats to the goverment in a briefing to the media this evening. The union leaders United have threatened to withdraw Nurses' services at Kenyatta National Hospital and Moi Teaching and Referral hospital should the strike remain unsolved for the coming 7 days.
Nurses in these two major hospitals were exempted from the on going strike as their respective hospital boards had responded to more than half of their issues. The Strike has been on going for the last 20 days.
The goverment scheduled 6 meetings with the union leaders but still no fruits. Defiant Panyako has vowed not to be threatened by anyone who has powers to order his arrest.
The doctors already called off their strike after signing a return to work formula with the goverment but still local health facilities are not working. Nurses are the ones who mostly supervise grassroot health facilities.
Last week, the Ministery of Health threatened to sack all nurses and hire new staff. The nurses Union has however seemed to be motivated by the threat.
