The ruling by the International Court of Justice on a maritime dispute between Kenya and Somalia has caused tension among the Kenyan fishermen. The fishermen say that the area is popular due to the huge number of fish that are found at the section of the Indian Ocean. This area has been their source of income and the ruling by the ICJ will affect them negatively.

According to those who spoke to Ntv, majority of the people who do fishing at the area rocked by disputes are Kenyans. The fishermen also say that they are fearing for their lives.

The area is also know for maritime transportation routes and there are fears that the ICJ's decision could disrupt the water transport for ships destined to Mombasa Port.

Despite the decision by the International Court of Justice, the Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta has hinted that he does not agree with the ruling. However the President of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo accepted the ruling by the ICJ concerning the Maritime Dispute.
