In her new post, she will be responsible for ensuring the coordination of all United Nations institutions working with development at the country level.
She is expected to bring 25 years of experience in sexual and reproductive health and rights from the public and private sectors to her new position.
The Zambian government approved her employment.
"Ms Beatrice Mutali offers more than 25 years of commercial and public sector experience in the domain of sexual and reproductive health and rights, spanning Middle- and Low-Income nations, as well as a mix of development and humanitarian contexts," according to the appointment announcement.
Mutali congratulated the UN Secretary-General for her appointment, promising to advance the UN's agenda in Zambia.
"I am deeply honored to have been chosen by Antonio Guterres. I am looking forward to furthering the engagement between the Government of Zambia and the United Nations team in achieving the SDGs "she explained
Mutali previously served as the UN Population Fund's (UNFPA) Deputy Regional Director for East and Southern Africa, as well as the UNFPA's Representative to South Africa.
She has also served as the UNFPA's Country Director for Botswana and Eswatini, as well as the Deputy Regional Director for West and Central Africa.
Throughout the roles, she has successfully led successful strategy creation and implementation, policy engagement, resource mobilization, program management, and has developed solid partnerships.
Outside of the UN, she worked with Merck/MSD, the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, the International Planned Parenthood Federation, and the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
In 2014, the Master's Graduate joined the United Nations.
