Section of Mt Kenya Leaders Set to Back Raila

Deputy President William Samoei Ruto is a man determined to succeed his boss, President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta as the fifth President of this great country. The duo had previously enjoyed a cordial working relationship that saw them get elected and re-elected as the Deputy President and President in 2013 and 2017 general elections respectively.

As Kenya heads to August ninth polls, the President and his Deputy remain two antagonists who don't only sail in different boats but also read from two totally different scripts as far the political discourse of this country is concerned. It has turned messy and noisy as the duo are now out to sheme how to outsmart each other in the political stage.

Despite Mount Kenya region remaining Uhuru's political backyard,Ruto has really made tremendous progress by rallying just a huge support from the residents. It is equally in the public domain that, Ruto's perceived forrays into the mountain has not augered well with President Kenyatta who is being alledged to be on his way to erode his Deputy's gains.

But what can be termed as a setback and a blow to DP Ruto who is keen to rally the Mountain to the last man behind him is what transpired on Kiambu on Thursday.DP was in apolitical tour of Kikuyu constituency where a bold message was sent to him by the local leadership.Kikuyu constituency is being represented by Kimani Ichung'wa who is an ardent supporter of William Ruto.

What emerged from the meeting is that four out the five elected Members of the County Assembly from the Constituency gave the meeting a wide berth.Coming bold and clean about their move, the MCAs clarrified that they don't subscribe to DP Ruto's ideologies and that they are fully behind President Uhuru Kenyatta who is their bona fide leader.People Daily has established this.

Kimani Wanjiku(Kinoo ward),Samwel Mugwanja(Karai ward),Naftali Ngugi(Sigona ward) and Peter Kioi(Nachu ward) gave the meeting a wide berth despite the effort to have all of them on board with only Henry Kagiri of Kiguyu Township ward in attendance.Kagiri is a staunch ally of former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

This silent brewing rebellion from Mount Kenya backyard is a poison in chalice to Ruto's presidential bid as the man needs almost the entire Mount Kenya vote basket to successfully trounch his closest rival, ODM party leader Raila Amolo Odinga who is equally making forrays and inroads into the vote-rich region.
