Kirinyaga county gubernatorial race will undoubtedly be fiercely contested and watched closely if the leading aspirants refuse to change position and face other on the ballot.

Three women; the incumbent Anne Waiguru, Kirinyaga Women Representative Purity Ngirici and former Gichugu MP Martha Karua have all declared interest in the seat.

Both Waiguru and Ngirici, who are currently not seeing eye to eye, are in UDA which is led by Deputy President William Ruto, while Karua is still leading her Narc-Kenya party.

Now, youthful politician Kiigen Koech has urged Karua to drop his bid for governorship and go for running mate position if offered by the main presidential contenders.

"MARTHA KARUA should leave KIRINYAGA COUNTY to ANNE WAIGURU and PURITY NGIRICI. As Kenya's next Deputy President is where she belongs," tweeted Koech, who vied for Dagoretti North parliamentary seat aspirant seat in 2017.

Political commentator Dee Kitonyi said the best way for the three women to avoid political conflict was for Karua to become Ruto's running mate, and Ngirici run for the Kirinyaga Senate seat.

"Exactly. Furthermore Waiguru being an incumbent and running on a popular party she already has a head start. My wish list is this: Karua to deputize Ruto, Ann to complete her 2nd Term & Ngirici can go for Sen. To check Waiguru at the Senate as she preps for Gov2027," Kitonyi tweeted on Monday.

However, Karua is on record saying she can't deputise Ruto and insisting her focus was on governor's post.
