50 AIR CAVALRY BATTALION (50 ACB)
Also known as 50 Kenya Riffle (50 KR). Its the Kenya Army unit that offer aerial reconnaissances and its also an airborne anti – tank air support battalion. It’s based in Embakasi Air Base.
THE INFANTRY UNITS
These are the units in which primary mandate is to fight and win battles on land within the area in which they have been assigned. It is also known as area of operation. They also offer help to civil authorities in maintenance of order. Kenya School of Infantry is based in Isiolo. This unit has been used extensively in Somalia during Operation Linda Nchi.
KENYA ARMY ARMOUR
They are armoured troops who use bullet proof tanks to access extremely dangerous places. 76 Armoured Reconnaissance Battalion (ARB), 78 Tank Battalion, 81 Tank Battalion, 86 Armoured Reconnaissance Battalion (ARB), 91 Tank Battalion and School Of Armour are formations of this unit.
KENYA ARMY ARTILLERY
This is mainly referred to as the Kenya Army support battalion. It includes;
66 Artillery Battalion, 75 Artillery Battalion (AD), 77 Artillery Battalion, 8 Artillery Battalion, and School of Artillery (Kenya)
KENYA ARMY ENGINEERS
It is based in Gilgil, and it is in charge of Kenya Army machinery. It undertake several projects like construction of roads, dams and airstrips. They includes 10 Engineers Battalion, 12 Engineers Battalion, School of Combat Engineering (SOCE), Kenya Army Corps of Signals (KACS), AHQ Signal Battalion, School of Signals
KENYA ARMY PARATROOPERS
These are one of the elite units on Kenya Army. They are are transported by air and descend using parachutes. They are able to access areas where no vehicles can access. They also offer reconnaissance support. Their contribution during Operation Linda Nchi can not be underestimated.
