Raila Odinga responds to presidential results announced by Wafula Chebukati

Today Raila Odinga the leader of Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance was supposed to address the nation at KICC at exactly 2Pm concerning yesterday's announcement at Bomas of Kenya where William Ruto was announced as the President-elect by Wafula Chebukati.

He has addressed the nation this afternoon and has said the announced figures by Wafula Chebukati were null and void and the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya reject the results.

"We have a statement that we want to issue today following the general election. On August 9th 2022 million of Kenyans turned out to vote,but yesterday our party Democracy suffered. I and Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance and kenyas at large were shocked. Figures announced by Mr Chebukati are null and void. We totally reject the results announced by Wafula Chebukati. We thank our supporters for remaining calm and we urge them to do so", Raila Odinga stated.

The supporters of Azimio la Umoja remained calm in various parts of the country waiting their leader Raila Odinga to give out the way forward.

Yesterday the chairman for Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati declared William Samoei Ruto as the 5th president of Kenya. After reading out the tallied votes at Bomas of Kenya, William Ruto garnered 7,176,141 (50.49%) votes against his competitor Raila Odinga who got 6,942,930 (48.85%) votes.

There were other candidates such as Prof George Wajackoyah for Roots party who got 61,969 (0.44%) votes and David Waihiga Mwaure for Agano party who had 31987 (0.23%) votes. William Ruto emerged the winner since had 50 percent plus votes which is required by law for a presidential aspirant to the election.
