Uhuru's Govt. Suffers Huge Blow As Raila, Uhuru Vocal MPs Rejected Uhuru's Backed Health Bill

President Uhuru Kenyatta's Administration has suffered another blow after the Parliament rejected a government-baaked Bill that sought to control medical bills and doctors’ fees after health sector lobbies protested the move saying their views were largely ignored.

Under the Health (Amendment) Bill, 2021, hospital charges were to be determined and capped by an 11-member council that includes the Principal Secretary for Health, the Attorney-General and a representative of the Council of Governors.

This would have made hospital charges join a list of government essentials services that are controlled by the government in push to basic items like fuel affordable.

The Health committee will now conduct fresh public hearings before preparing a report on Bill that aims to curb the surge in hospital expenses. Speaker of the National Assembly while giving a ruling on the same on Thursday, said that the Committee to do a comprehensive public participation by inviting the public to participate.
