Kenya fourth president Uhuru Kenyatta will on Wednesday confer city status on Nakuru to be declared a city, Uhuru says Nakuru will be joining the Kenyan cities among Nairobi,Kisumu and Mombasa due to it devolution.
"I will tomorrow have a high privilege of conferring to Nakuru municipality the city status,this is as a result of devolution,to join the other cities of the country, Uhuru said".
Speaking during the state nation address at parliamentary building Nairobi today , president Uhuru says the declaration is due to the urban areas and cities act which seeks to give effect of the article 184 of the Kenya constitution, which provide for classification, management and governance of urban areas.
Before classification as a city, urban areas must posses infrastructure facilities such as street lights , waste disposal, markets, disaster management facilities among many others.
Alot will be expected from president Uhuru Kenyatta as he tour Nakuru tomorrow and others government officials and servants will accompany him including internal security cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i.
