Listen to William Ruto at Your Own Peril - Philip Etale

William Ruto’s blatant attacks on the ODM leader Raila Odinga and his support base while on a tour of the Nyeri County on 2021-12-05 seems to have rubbed the ODM leadership the wrong way and they have now decided to fire back.

On Monday 2021-12-06 the ODM Communication Director Philip Etale warned Kenyans against listening to the Deputy President William Ruto because he is feels Ruto is very bitter and likes dwelling on old political narratives.

According to Etale, listening to the Deputy President William Ruto is like listening to a music record of the 1940s. “Listen to him at your own peril,” said Etale.

Earlier in the day Etale had particularly taken issue with DP Ruto’s remarks in which he seemingly referred to a section of Raila’s followers as stone throwers and Watu wa Kung’oa reli (those who uproot railway lines).

Just who have the UDA brigade been referring to using those two unprintable terms? Could they be Raila’s supporters? It can be remembered that the only time a political protest led to the vandalism of the railway line in Kenya was in 2007 during the post election violence. It occurred in a region which is highly believed to be Raila’s stronghold.

It has since been use by Raila’s political rivals to stereotype his supporters as a people who are very destructive and violent. This time round, DP Ruto’s followers like Rigathi Gachagua and even Ruto himself have seemingly resorted to using the 2007 unfortunate incident as a political tool and people like Etale are not ready to take it.
