While giving a speech at the statehouse to bid Chebukati farewell from being IEBC Chairman for six years, DP Gachagua praised him for what he did in the last year's August general elections.
He applauded him for rejecting bribery from competitors who wanted him to rig elections in their favour.
Gachagua said, "I want to salute Wafula Chebukati and the other two commissioners for standing up for Kenya, doing the right thing, refusing to be tempted by bribery and rejecting intimidation and threats to go against the will of the people."
He also said that Chebukati and his colleagues are heroes and thanked the president for acknowledging them on Jamuhuri Day.
According to Gachagua, Chebukati needs tight security because he went against powerful people during the elections. He revealed that arrangements have already been made to protect him from the dangerous team that he antagonized.
"We are aware that you antagonized very powerful and dangerous people, and as a responsible government we have made arrangements that in your retirement you have full protection and security to enjoy your life without fear," DP Gachagua stated.
