It had been claimed that the cost for performing the surgical procedure to remove the 3kg growth on Mama Beatrice Makokha's face was more than Ksh 2M in India.
This touched the philanthropic former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko and his family to contribute Ksh 300 000 and offered two return air tickets and visa charges to Beatrice and one family member. Sonko urged other well wishers to make contributions towards Beatrice Medical bill.
Mpesa Paybill number was set up towards her medical bills but Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati organized for her to be admitted at Bungoma County Referral Hospital where several tests were conducted. Wangamati also enrolled Beatrice to the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) so as the bills could be taken care of by the medical fund.
Upon successful tests, Bungoma County Referral Hospital referred Beatrice to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret for the surgery.
She was admitted at MTRH on 8th April and today a successful operation on Mama Beatrice was carried out by a team of medical experts from MTRH.
The hospital said that the total cost for the procedure is Ksh 550 000. The hospital further stated that they conducted the procedure as part of their corporate social responsibility therefore Beatrice will not pay any money.
Beatrice is expected to stay at the hospital for a week upon satisfactory hospital recuperation under universal health coverage.
Beatrice has been battling the growth since 2000. She said she had was experiencing difficulty in breathing especially while sleeping, forcing her to sleep on one side.
I take this opportunity to thank the medical teams at both Bungoma County Referral Hospital and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for the wonderful job they have done to Mama Beatrice.
