Deputy President William Ruto and his Mount Kenya allies yesterday took Kiambu County by a storm. The Deputy President pulled a large crowd and yet there were no prior arrangements on the visit as he had just come out of a church service. The charged crowsld warmly welcomed him and endorsed his presidential ambitions.
The second in command had gone to worship with the believers of a church in Githunguri Constituency. Leasers from the regione accompanied him among them being former Kiambu Governor Waititu. On his way out, the Deputy President met Githiga residents who had come up to greet him.
The handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga has not changed anything, as the Mount Kenya residents still support the Deputy President Ruto and he still has a huge following and wherever he goes, he always receives a warm welcome and people always turn up to greet him.
After the 2018 March handshake between Uhuru and Raila, the Jubilee party disintegrated into two factions; those allied to the President and others to the Deputy President. Those supporting the Deputy President have been selling Ruto's candidature while those on the President's side have been trying to market ODM boss Raila Odinga in the Mount Kenya region.
