DP Ruto’s UDA Swept Up All Parliamentary Seats In Martha Karua's Kirinyaga Backyard

Deputy President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has bagged up all the parliamentary seats in Martha Karua's backyard, Kirinyaga County.

The party gave Raila Odinga's Azimio la Umoja a landslide defeat in the region which is perceived to be his running mate Martha Karua's backyard.

In all the four Sub-coutienties, namely Kirinyaga Central, Gichugu, Ndia and Mwea, UDA candidates bagged all the Parliamentary seats.

By Thursday, celebrations rocked the region following UDA's landslide victory.

In Mwea, Mary Maingi, who was trying his luck in politics for the first time, defeated the incumbent Kabinga Wathayu of Jubilee.

Ms Maingi got 50,667 votes and he is now the newly elected MP of the largest Sub-County in the region while Mr Wathayu came second with 31,735 votes.

In Gichugu Sub-County where Martha Karua voted, Mr Gichimu Githinji of UDA defended his seat with 33,889 votes. His closest challenger, Mr Peterson Njomo who contested as an independent, got 15,069 votes.

In Ndia Sub-County, George Kariuki defended his seat on UDA ticket.

In Kirinyaga Central, ex MP Gachoki Gitari contested again on UDA ticket after beating the incumbent Munene Wambugu of Jubilee.
