Azimio La Umoja is on brink of collapse nearly four months after August 9 general election. Parties allied to Azimio such as Jubilee have already shown indication of ditching Azimio and jubilee leaders especially from Mt Kenya region have said they are ready to work with President William Ruto.
Azimio had planned a protest rally today in Nairobi but the meeting was called off yesterday at an eleventh hour. Even though Azimio attributed postponment to ongoing national examination but expert says that Azimio may have sensed danger.
Raila has planned parallel Jamhuri day celebration but details have emerged that a section of MPs allied to him have opposed the move. Some Azimio leaders have argued that Jamhuri day is a national event that need not be interfered with," a lawmaker told Nation.
Raila and Wiper party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, who hosted the meeting at his party office in Karen, had yet to make a final decision.
This now puts Raila's planned parallel Jamhuri day celebration in limbo as it may also fail to happen. The former Prime Minister has faced much resistance over his latest plans to fight President Ruto's administration.
