Ochillo Ayacko of the Orange Democratic Movement party has been elected by the people of Migori county to succeed governor Obado as the next governor. Ochillo who has been the senator for Migori floored strong competitors to emerge as the winner of the 2022 general elections.

John Dache of DAP-K was the closest opponent to Ochillo having got 126,171 votes against Ochillo's 175,226 votes. Ochillo is now the second governor for Migori succeeding Okoth Obado who has been the governor for Migori for two terms.
Dalmas Otieno who was thirsting for the seat came third with 21,274 votes while Rebecca Maroa got 6,563 votes. The 2022 elections have been the toughest that the country has experienced in years. It has also been the most peaceful and many leaders from across the world have lauded Kenyans for the peaceful election.
