Martha Karua Speaks After William Ruto Was Named as President Elect

Martha Karua, the vice presidential contender for the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance movement, has made a statement in response to the announcement made by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission that William Ruto will be the next leader of the country.

On her many social media sites, she has indicated that nothing is definitive until it is, which lends credence to the notion that the Supreme Court will be engaged in the very near future.

Raila Odinga, a senior opposition leader, was beaten in the country's presidential election on Monday. Shortly after the poll's conclusion, Deputy President William Ruto, who has positioned himself as a protector of Kenya's poor, gave her message.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati made the statement on the evening of Monday, August 15, 2022 at 6:03 p.m. in the Bomas of Kenya.

He stated that Mr. Ruto had received 7,176,141 votes, which is equivalent to 50.49 percent of the total votes cast, and that this constituted the minimum number of 39 counties, which is equivalent to 25%, as required by the constitution.

However, only moments before the announcement was to take place, four electoral commissioners stated that they would not respect the results because of the "opaque character" of the operation.
