Polycarp Igathe of the Azimio LA Umoja One Kenya party is running for Nairobi governor against Johnson Sakaja of the United Democratic Movement (UDM).
After his degree controversy, Sakaja is still unsure of whether he will run for the seat. The Nairobi senator did, however, receive some relief as IEBC head Wafula Chebukato maintained that Sakaja must be on the ballot.
According to a Kenyans.co.ke online poll, Sakaja is chosen over Igathe while he waits to put a stop to his degree issue. With 64% of the total opinion votes, Sakaja is the contender with the most support, according to Kenyans.co.ke's data. Igathe receives 36% of the vote, placing second.
According to the poll, Nairobi County voters prefer Sakaja over ODM candidate Igathe. Even if his chances of winning the Nairobi governor's election remain slim, the senator continues to be the front-runner against Igathe. Igathe will prevail if Sakaja is prevented from competing for the seat. However, the senator continues to be the county's favorite to succeed Governor Anne Kananu at the time.
