Deputy President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza Coalition is very unpopular in the coastal county of Taita Taveta.
According to the recent opinion poll results released by Mizani Africa on June 30, 2022, the Kenya Kwanza coalition faces an uphill battle to win any of the top seven elective seats in Taita Taveta.
The survey shows that the Raila Odinga-led Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition would win 6 out of the 7 top seats in the county while DP Ruto's KKA would only bag one seat. In the gubernatorial race, incumbent Governor Granton Samboja is the leading candidate with a popularity score of 49.2 percent. UDA's John Mruttu has a popularity rating of only 22.1 percent.
The senatorial race is between Azimio candidates Godwin Kilele (Jubilee) and Jones Mwaruma (ODM). The Kenya Kwanza candidate John Mwachofi (UDA) has a popularity rating of only 3.5 percent.
Kenya Kwanza candidates are also trailing their Azimio candidates for all the four parliamentary seats in Taita Taveta. In Voi Constituency, incumbent MP Mlolwa Jones (Jubilee) is leading the Kenya Kwanza candidate Mwalimu Dishon Mgonda of The Service Party (TSP).
Danson Mwashako of Wiper, Peter Mbogho Shake of Jubilee and John Bwire of Wiper are the leading candidates in Wundanyi, Mwatate and Taveta constituencies respectively.
The only top seat UDA is likely to win in Taita Taveta is the Women Rep seat. Incumbent Lydia Haika (UDA) is leading in the popularity ranking with a rating of 36.2%. However, there's only a margin of 1.1 percent between her and the Azimio candidate Joyce Wanjala Lay.
If these opinion poll survey results are anything to go by, then DP Ruto's Kenya Kwanza faces an uphill battle to win any seats in Taita Taveta.
