How Acting CJ Philomena Mwilu was Courteously Reminded That Her Time Was Running Out

While interviewing Court of Appeal judge William Ouko, acting Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu was courteously reminded that her time was running out.

This is the first time that the deputy Chief Justice was reminded to utilise her time well by the chairperson of the recruiting Judicial Service Commission professor Olive Mugenda.

"Madam DCJ, I hope you are almost through because your time is running out,"professor Olive Mugenda to Philomena Mwilu who appreciated the reminder.

She was actively asking questions to William Ouko who is also the president of the Court of Appeal having assumed the position after a unanimous election by fellow Court of Appeal judges.

Philomena Mwilu had to in response cut down her questions and it was evident that she had more questions to ask than time allocated to her could allow.

During the recruitment, Judge Ouko said that his qualifications and administration in the Judiciary place him at the front line as Kenya’s next Chief Justice.

On reforms and transformation of the Judiciary, Judge Ouko held that the time for talk is over and only action can save the institution.

He is among the candidates who have great experience and are being thought to have a high probability of taking over from retired Chief Justice David Maraga.

On Tuesday, renown lawyer Senior Counsel Fred Ngatia was interviewed where he also showed great knowledge of the workings of the Judiciary.
