Those asking what will happen if President Uhuru is unable to sell former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in Mt Kenya region in support of his 2022 Presidential bid told what will happen as fresh details emerge.
Former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim has disclosed that President Uhuru has already settled on Orange Democratic Movement Party Leader Raila Odinga as the best person to succeed him receiving the support of the state.
The former legislator has said that the reason why President Uhuru is preferring on Raila Odinga is that he cooperates in playing the ball of succession after 2027 that will see President Uhuru give him a strong running mate from the Mountain region.
“In my opinion, he is torn between supporting Raila with the objective of giving him a strong running mate from the Mt Kenya region,” the former National Assembly Deputy Speaker has said.
However, Maalim has said that following the past demonization of Raila Odinga in the Mt Kenya region it might not work well for President Uhuru extending that he also sees Uhuru having a hidden card in case Raila becomes a hard sale in the Mt Kenya region.
“The downside for Uhuru is if he is unable to sell Raila because of the damnations and vilification against him and the Luo as a nation in that region,” says Farah.
The former National Assembly Deputy Speaker has explained that should President Uhuru find it hard to sell Raila Odinga in the Mt Kenya region, then the favor will go to Deputy President William Ruto and who has already made an inroad to the region.
The former legislator has too added that it does not mean that DP Ruto should celebrate should Uhuru push for Raila in Mt Kenya fall expanding that Raila Odinga and Uhuru might back another candidate from the region.
“His options are really limited and it is Ruto who has an advantage in many of those scenarios unless they make it easier by both backing another candidate,” says Farah.
