" It's Not Possible To Postpone Elections" BBI Proponents Dealt A Blow

The push for the Building Bridges Initiative Constitutional amendment Bill had taken a new twist after pro BBI politicians went public and declared that the forthcoming general elections could be postponed for BBI to be passed first.

The biggest upset to the bill was the annulment in the High Court, which forced the proponents to form a top legal team to appeal at the Court of Appeal.

However, the allegations by the proponents of the bill that the general elections scheduled for August 2022 could be postponed have been dismissed as an impossibility. According to experts, the elections cannot be pushed forward.

The outspoken Central Organisation of Trade Unions secretary general Francis Atwoli had warned of a possible postponement of elections, saying that "no BBI no elections".

However, Constitutional experts have explained that it will take a constitutional amendment through an Act of Parliament to postpone elections.

BBI proponents have been pushing for a referendum before the general elections, something which has been dealt a blow by the test of time, because of the pending Court of Appeal judgement.
