Kalonzo and Raila Could Still Meet and Continue with Negotiations Before IEBC Gazettes List

Hours after quitting the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance, it has emerged that Raila and Kalonzo will continue with negotiations to see if they can arrive at an agreement that will see them work together. Kalonzo is expected to continue with talks together with Raila until the end of May when IEBC is expected gazette the final list of candidates for the August 9th elections. The time left until the end of May gives Kalonzo a chance to continue working with Raila before the window is closed.

According to a report in the Star Newspaper, Raila and Kalonzo will continue having meetings to see if they can still work together after failing to name Kalonzo as his running mate. Kalonzo had given Raila strong warning that he would leave Azimio coalition if he was not made running mate and he shown that he wants nothing less.

Kalonzo’s ally Mutula Kilonzo has observed that the two leaders have about 14 days to strike deal that will favour both of them. Kalonzo has been giving Raila pressure to be made Raila’s running mate but it seems Raila is not keen on working with him in that capacity.

“They still have close to 14 days. We do not want to anticipate what will happen but the two will continue talking to reach a deal,” Mutula Kilonzo has said.
