The former Vice President's name was not included in the list of 16, as he quit the Azimio La Umoja camp two weeks ago to run for President.
Kalonzo was apparently left out because he failed to meet several of the standards, particularly the one requiring the submission of names of supporters.
Instead of giving names of persons endorsing his presidential campaign in Excel format, Kalonzo did so in PDF format, which resulted in the outcome.
Kalonzo was left out for this reason, according to IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati, after failing to meet the May 25 date as stipulated.
"However, by the stipulated time, Wiper Party had provided all requirements, with the exception of the softcopy version of the list of supporters, which was submitted in PDF format rather than Excel," he informed The Standard.
But not all is lost for the former Vice President, who now has until the end of today to make amends and have his name removed from the list.
However, those cheering Kalonzo's previous move may be disappointed to learn that Kalonzo may actually be the one to present the names.
This is in light of the fact that the party wrote to the IEBC on May 25 to request extra time, which was granted by Chebukati on Saturday, implying that the leader is still serious about running.
Wiper has made every indication that it will meet the requirements today in order to stay in the lead.
"The Commission has evaluated and granted Wiper Party's request to provide a softcopy of its list of supporters in Excel format by [Sunday], May 29, 2022 at 9 a.m. at the Bomas of Kenya," Chebukati said in response to Wiper's request for additional time in a letter.
This is bad news for Azimio La Umoja fans who may have assumed that Kalonzo's coalition was over and that he would have to rejoin it.
