Yesterday, Kenya Railways Corporation demolished illegal structures in Obunga. Some of the these structures were built on the almost 25 years dormant railway lines within obunga. The demolitions was initiated by the ongoing project to rehabilitate the Kisumu Nakuru railway.
The demolitions was carried out by teams from Kenya Railways Corporation, Kenya Defense Forces and Kenya Youth Service. Why all this for Obunga?
Most traders did not get chance to remove their properties. They salvaged the properties after demolitions.
Why was Obunga demolished yet there was a notice from the office of governor stopping ongoing demolitions affecting small traders till uhuru market opens?
The conuty boss Abala Wanga promised affected traders especially fish mongers that they will be relocated to the reclaimed public grabbed by private developers. The perimeter wall for this land was also demolished.
