As the constitutional term for the Muranga County Governor, Mwangi Wa Iria comes to an end in 2022, the county and the residents are pondering on who will take over the mantle from the first governor, who have been highly rated due to his work rate and performance in the county as well as in the national politics.
As compared to the 2012 Muranga County gubernatorial race, the 2022 race is expected to be very competitive since there are several political figures who have been tipped to vie for the seat and take over the mantle from the outgoing governor, Mwangi Wa Iria.
1. Senator Irungu Kang'ata.
To start with, Irungu Kangata, who is currently serving as the county Senator and also doubles up as the Leader of the Majority in the Senate, is expected to competitively vie for the seat against other possible contestants. At the moment, he has become one of the most popular politician in the county especially on his stand in regard to the BBI and it's popularity in the region, where he wrote a controversial letter to the president on the same.
The letter made him have some differences with Jubilee Party, ahead of the 2022 polls. He is therefore expected to take the advantage of his popularity and vie for the top seat in Muranga County.
2. MP. Sabina Wanjiru Chege
Hon. Sabina Chege is the first and the current Muranga County Woman Representative, and is serving her second and final term. She is therefore expected to go for nothing less than the county's top seat, and because of her popularity, the governors seat would suit her.
3. MP. Ndindi Nyoro.
The Kiharu Constituency Member of Parliament has become one of the most envied politicians in the county. His service delivery to the Kiharu residents as well as in the county and national radar have made him coin a name amongst the county residents, and is therefore expected to competitively contest for the top seat in the county, against the other possible contestants.
