Some of his new roles elicited mixed reactions since they were initially supposed to be carried out by DP Ruto.
This would later see Kenyans speculate that Matiang'i could be Uhuru's de facto Deputy and even succesor especially after Uhuru's falling out with DP Ruto.
Uhuru has in the past few months been sending Matiang'i to represent him in key meetings abroad.
Last month Matiang'i flew to Zambia where he held a close door Meeting with the new Zambian President Hichilema Hakainde.
These meetings have seen many speculate on whether Uhuru could be grooming the CS as his succesor.
A fresh twist has today however emerged after it has emerged that Matiang'i has received intelligence on who Uhuru prefers as his succesor.
But he has now recently changed his mind after he was informed that Uhuru was planning for Raila Odinga to succeed him ahead of next year's polls.
The Star has further established that Matiang'i has also been rallying behind Health CS Mutahi Kagwe who is allegedly being groomed to be either Raila's running mate or a future presidential candidate.
Kagwe is allegedly said to be a good planner and leader owing to his exemplary management of the COVID-19 pandemic.
